Accelerated Reader or AR is the umbrella name used to identify the reading management program developed by Renaissance Learning. It is designed to help the classroom teacher motivate, monitor and manage students' independent reading practice. It is not curriculum; however, it can be used to help inform instruction.
AR is comprised of four distinct components: Accelerated Reader Renaissance Place STAR Reading Book Guide Students use the first two components--AR and STAR. Renaissance Place enables teachers to manage and monitor student reading practice, and Book Guide is a management tool used by the teacher-librarian. |
"Books are magical. They have the power to teach,
to move, and to enthrall. They transport us to faraway places, ignite our imaginations, and challenge our minds. Accelerated Reader is not about the quizzes, the points, or the technology. It's about turning kids on to books!" (pg. 51) For assistance, contact your teacher-librarian or Information and Library Services. 306-791-7273 [email protected] |
